If you’re like me, you may have accidentally injured a cow or two trying to feed them in Core Keeper. It’s not super clear how to feed these hungry critters and button mashing can have devastating consequences.
Guide will teach you the basic mechanics of the game, explain the HUD, and show you a short walkthrough to help you start your adventure!
Screenshot by Bonus Action When creating a character in Core Keeper, you can choose your starting class by changing your character’s background. This background impacts the skills and items you start with.

Buffs/Debuffs: All of your buffs and debuffs will be shown below the Hunger bar. You can put your mouse over a buff or debuff to see what it does.
Minimap: This shows you the map of the area immediately around you. Icons for bosses that you have located will also show up on this map, giving you an idea of which direction you need to go in order to reach them.

Screenshot by Bonus Action To feed cows and other animals in Core Keeper, move a crop to your active item slot so that you’re holding it. Once your character is holding a crop, the animals will approach. They’ll keep eating until you run out of crops or switch them out of your active slot.

The first time I saw glowing red eyes blinking in the dark in one of the more distant biomes I got so panicked I wound up swinging a berry pudding I had in my inventory instead of my sword. Tunneling into any new area, surrounded by pitch-black darkness and only clearing a path wide enough for yourself can be creepy and claustrophobic.
Sipping on some milk for a bonus to your armor isn’t a bad idea, either. I was able to defeat him by setting several traps in the area, and then using ranged attacks to keep my distance.
